I‘m a liberal leaning outdoorsman attempting to open the minds of right wingers to the idea that libs fish too. Anglers come from all walks of life, left, right, and center. Not everyone who fishes for bass is a redneck fond of Nascar, country music, and religiosity. Expect posts about largemouth bass fishing, techniques, reviews of lures and other products, but not any condemnable conservative rants. I hope to inspire the online angler community to dial down rhetoric which will do more harm than good to our sport.

Getting Around:

If you are looking for something in particular, use the Labels below, the Blog Archive, or the search box at the top to find what you need. When using the search box, simple search terms will get the best results. One word is often better than three. Searching for "Pflueger" will give you more results than "Pflueger baitcasting reel." Use these three features to your advantage.

Labels are relevant tags or keywords. Click on a label to view other related posts organized by date. For example, clicking on the label spinnerbaits will take you to all the other posts with the tag spinnerbaits and the label largemouth bass denotes any fishing report where I caught a bass. Labels are listed below, first by frequency and then in alphabetical order. Labels are also tagged below each individual post. When viewing by Label, 20 results are listed per page. Click "Older Posts" to see more posts with that Label. In addition, some entries may also have a list of related posts at the bottom you might also find useful.

Anyone can comment, so go ahead and post. I'd like to hear what you think. There is a "Post a Comment" link below every single entry. Comments are still moderated for approval. Anything inappropriate will be rejected. This also helps cut down on spam.

Thanks for stopping by!

• Cross Lake Report 12/11/2007

Cross Lake. Shreveport, Louisiana

I took my brother out fishing today, showed him a few spots, and taught him how to use his new Pro Qualifier Limted Edition baitcaster. I hit some of the same spots I've been catching fish lately. I caught two around noon on a chartreuse Terminator T1 spinnerbait. Lost that same spinnerbait after clanking it into the trolling motor on a back swing. I dragged the bottom with a magnet and only came up with clumps of hydrilla and a beat up plastic brush hog. Imagine that. Losing that lure messed with my mind and I had a few more hangups in trees and trouble with the wind.

We drifted for a while, changed spots, and tried our best to stay out of the wind. We ended up drifting north with the wind along a bank and my brother picked up his two bass on an older spinnerbait with a new white skirt on it. We didn't have any more bites after that. Water temps ranged from 61 to 63, mostly cloudy skies, and steady strong wind all afternoon. I tried a buzzbait back in some pad stems, but even though fish were hitting the top, nothing went after the buzzbait.

I'm really not sure where to go from here. I've heard by word of mouth that people have been tearing up the bass somewhere on Cross and even catching quite a few 5lb+ fish. Either they are telling tall tales or I'm just not that lucky. It's likely to be a tall tale or at least a stretch because Cross is never that good to people. Caddo can be. Not Cross.

Now I need to clean off the hydrilla stuck in the carpet on the front of the boat and also wash out one of the rear livewells where we keep an anchor. The weather is going to start cooling off starting tomorrow, so this may be my last fishing report for a while. My brother needs a new tackle box after breaking a few tabs in his old one today. I plan on finding a replacement T1 spinnerbait if Academy still has them on the rack.

Here are pics of three out of the four bass we caught. The last bass was smaller and I forgot to snap a photo of it.

What worked for us today
BPS Pro Qualifier Limited Edition, 12lb Gamma Copolymer, Spinnerbaits worked fast and slow over remaining hydrilla in shallow water (4ft or less) on wind blown banks.
