I‘m a liberal leaning outdoorsman attempting to open the minds of right wingers to the idea that libs fish too. Anglers come from all walks of life, left, right, and center. Not everyone who fishes for bass is a redneck fond of Nascar, country music, and religiosity. Expect posts about largemouth bass fishing, techniques, reviews of lures and other products, but not any condemnable conservative rants. I hope to inspire the online angler community to dial down rhetoric which will do more harm than good to our sport.

Getting Around:

If you are looking for something in particular, use the Labels below, the Blog Archive, or the search box at the top to find what you need. When using the search box, simple search terms will get the best results. One word is often better than three. Searching for "Pflueger" will give you more results than "Pflueger baitcasting reel." Use these three features to your advantage.

Labels are relevant tags or keywords. Click on a label to view other related posts organized by date. For example, clicking on the label spinnerbaits will take you to all the other posts with the tag spinnerbaits and the label largemouth bass denotes any fishing report where I caught a bass. Labels are listed below, first by frequency and then in alphabetical order. Labels are also tagged below each individual post. When viewing by Label, 20 results are listed per page. Click "Older Posts" to see more posts with that Label. In addition, some entries may also have a list of related posts at the bottom you might also find useful.

Anyone can comment, so go ahead and post. I'd like to hear what you think. There is a "Post a Comment" link below every single entry. Comments are still moderated for approval. Anything inappropriate will be rejected. This also helps cut down on spam.

Thanks for stopping by!

• Bought a new cranking rod

I went to Bass Pro today to get one of their Crankin Sticks on clearance down from $49.99 to $34.88. I didn't initially want another rod, but after getting the Pro Qualifier Limited Edition combo, I realized one of my Shimano Callistos served no real purpose in the boat. I mean, I have two of them. So I thought about what else I could have tied on that I was lacking. My Prolite does a lot of the light stuff, but it would be nice to have another medium light rod to cover things from 1/16oz to 1/2oz. Most of my cranks and hardbaits don't weigh much anyway, so I could get away with a ML rod. That means any of my Rapala minnows and smaller cranks would have a place in the lineup without having to do any lure changes on the Prolite. I just hope the Callisto can throw 'em. The Sojourn rod it was paired with before was a 6'6 medium action rod and could just barely get those lighter lures to fly. So now I have a Shimano Callisto paired with a 7'0 ML crankin stick. Hopefully, I'll be able to try it out tomorrow before any cold rain hits to test the castability. I can use it for other things too.

While at BPS, I checked out a few other things on clearance. The only thing that jumped out at me was that the Gambler Swimblade was marked down to $3. I'll have to pick up a couple after I wipe out my Academy gift card on other things. There were some Terminator Spinnerbaits priced at $5. Other than that, I didn't see too much that interested me. I did, however see about seven or eight Limited Edition Pro Qualifier combos set out on one of their round displays. Get 'em while they're hot. I wonder where they came from. They only had one left the last time I checked.

The Academy ad in the week end paper was advertising a new Pflueger reel. It's called the Patriarch. It looks like a tricked out Summit covered in shiny titanium in two gear ratios, a 6.4:1 and a 7.1:1, one more bearing than the Summit, and weighs 8.4oz. Both have wide spools. It looks like a very nice reel for $199. I'd still go for another Summit though. BPS didn't have them yet and I didn't ask them if any were coming in.

Please go here and read that post as I no longer support nor shop at Bass Pro Shops.
