I‘m a liberal leaning outdoorsman attempting to open the minds of right wingers to the idea that libs fish too. Anglers come from all walks of life, left, right, and center. Not everyone who fishes for bass is a redneck fond of Nascar, country music, and religiosity. Expect posts about largemouth bass fishing, techniques, reviews of lures and other products, but not any condemnable conservative rants. I hope to inspire the online angler community to dial down rhetoric which will do more harm than good to our sport.

Getting Around:

If you are looking for something in particular, use the Labels below, the Blog Archive, or the search box at the top to find what you need. When using the search box, simple search terms will get the best results. One word is often better than three. Searching for "Pflueger" will give you more results than "Pflueger baitcasting reel." Use these three features to your advantage.

Labels are relevant tags or keywords. Click on a label to view other related posts organized by date. For example, clicking on the label spinnerbaits will take you to all the other posts with the tag spinnerbaits and the label largemouth bass denotes any fishing report where I caught a bass. Labels are listed below, first by frequency and then in alphabetical order. Labels are also tagged below each individual post. When viewing by Label, 20 results are listed per page. Click "Older Posts" to see more posts with that Label. In addition, some entries may also have a list of related posts at the bottom you might also find useful.

Anyone can comment, so go ahead and post. I'd like to hear what you think. There is a "Post a Comment" link below every single entry. Comments are still moderated for approval. Anything inappropriate will be rejected. This also helps cut down on spam.

Thanks for stopping by!

• This Happens Every Year

Every year for about two weeks, I have the worst luck fishing. I think I've hit that point again. In the past, these two weeks are plagued with line breaks, reel problems, lost lures, lost fish, or no bites at all. It could be that this kind of luck stays with me because it kills my confidence and eats at my brain. My concentration might be completely off and I wouldn't even know it. So the other day, I hooked a torch post on the pier and lost a not-so-cheap spinnerbait that has hardly been used. I dragged the bottom with the magnet and my hands are paying for it. Never retrieved the lure. Today I clipped a limb casting a plastic which sent my reel into a backlash. The lure somehow bounced at almost a 90 degree angle to the right. I'm not sure how that was possible, but of course it hung up in the limb and I had to get in the pedal boat to retrieve it. I got in the boat and didn't pay attention to the rope at the front I use to tie it up or pull it to the bank. I started off and noticed the pedals getting harder to turn. The rope was getting wrapped up around them, so I had to use an oar to get back to the bank, flip the boat, and unravel the rope. This time I did recover the lure. The backlash was too much to handle, so I had to cut it all out. I respooled my last stretch of PLine Halo, so I need to go buy some more soon. This evening when it was getting close to dark, I accidentally cast a Ribbit into some weeds growing off the base of a cypress tree and it got hung up. I couldn't pull it free and the line broke. I'll have to go out in the morning when I have some light and see if the frog is still there or if it fell in the water. I haven't caught any fish since my last fishing report on the 10th. It's the 22nd.

Now imagine those things happening every day for two weeks. I think this is just the beginning of that run of bad luck. I need to clean the boat out and take it for a spin since it hasn't been used in a few months. What do you think? Bad idea?

Scratch that idea. The vehicle I tow with is in the shop for routine maintenance and a few extra things they found. Parts won't get here until Tuesday, so I am without a car. Let's see what happens to me next.
