I‘m a liberal leaning outdoorsman attempting to open the minds of right wingers to the idea that libs fish too. Anglers come from all walks of life, left, right, and center. Not everyone who fishes for bass is a redneck fond of Nascar, country music, and religiosity. Expect posts about largemouth bass fishing, techniques, reviews of lures and other products, but not any condemnable conservative rants. I hope to inspire the online angler community to dial down rhetoric which will do more harm than good to our sport.

Getting Around:

If you are looking for something in particular, use the Labels below, the Blog Archive, or the search box at the top to find what you need. When using the search box, simple search terms will get the best results. One word is often better than three. Searching for "Pflueger" will give you more results than "Pflueger baitcasting reel." Use these three features to your advantage.

Labels are relevant tags or keywords. Click on a label to view other related posts organized by date. For example, clicking on the label spinnerbaits will take you to all the other posts with the tag spinnerbaits and the label largemouth bass denotes any fishing report where I caught a bass. Labels are listed below, first by frequency and then in alphabetical order. Labels are also tagged below each individual post. When viewing by Label, 20 results are listed per page. Click "Older Posts" to see more posts with that Label. In addition, some entries may also have a list of related posts at the bottom you might also find useful.

Anyone can comment, so go ahead and post. I'd like to hear what you think. There is a "Post a Comment" link below every single entry. Comments are still moderated for approval. Anything inappropriate will be rejected. This also helps cut down on spam.

Thanks for stopping by!

• Cross Report 4-14-09 & 4-15-09

Not much to say. Fished this evening for a short while. Tossed the finesse jig again and picked up two bites. The first came off after the third jump. Looked like a 2lb in the slot. I could not keep that one from jumping. Picked up the other about ten minutes later. Didn't weigh it, but I did do a quick measure. Just another slot at 15 inches. Both fish bit in about two feet of water along the outside edge of thick cypress trees.

I had to quit because it was getting dark and my depth perception was dwindling. I would either cast too far into a low limb or weed I couldn't see the end of or the lure would fall about two feet shy of the intended target. That got frustrating pretty quick. I'm eagerly awaiting those long days when the sun goes down around 9pm.

Water was really clear. Will have to thank the recent rain for that, although it also means the stain will be coming in tomorrow or on Thursday. Didn't check temps. I also noticed fry and activity around the base of several cypress trees. Couldn't draw out any strikes in those spots, but I did get a quick nip by something on one of those trees. Gar were out too.

Here's a shot of the one that made it to the boat. The finesse jig I've been using is also pictured below. It's made by Strike Works. The brown paint on the jighead is almost completely gone. I've had to retie the skirt. Ripping it out of hangups in limbs has taken its toll on my trailers. Might have to start ordering those online unless Bacon's carries them too. Anyone know where I can get any V&M Baby V Chunks in the area? I get mine at Northwood, but they never have more than one or two packs.

I noticed this post is number 299 which means the next one will hit the 300 mark.

I decided to save the 300 post spot for my Vicious Fluorocarbon review. I hit the water late today in the small boat. Only picked up one 2lb 5oz slot bass. A boat had just worked its way through most of the same spot and I came in, tossed the finesse jig into a thick protected cypress limb overhang (see photo) and got a bite.

Noticed a lot of fry schooling around the base of cypress trees. Had a few nibbles off of trees tonight as well. Not sure if the nibbles were short hits from bass or sunfish. I remember a couple of years ago, I fished cypress trees with a zipper-style worm and the bream nipped all the tails off of them rendering the worms useless. So if you're fishing the Cross TNT tomorrow, you might want to avoid throwing similar worms. It's only going to result in a lot of frustration.

Didn't check water temps. Clarity is still pretty good. Not a lot of fishing pressure the last few days.
