I‘m a liberal leaning outdoorsman attempting to open the minds of right wingers to the idea that libs fish too. Anglers come from all walks of life, left, right, and center. Not everyone who fishes for bass is a redneck fond of Nascar, country music, and religiosity. Expect posts about largemouth bass fishing, techniques, reviews of lures and other products, but not any condemnable conservative rants. I hope to inspire the online angler community to dial down rhetoric which will do more harm than good to our sport.

Getting Around:

If you are looking for something in particular, use the Labels below, the Blog Archive, or the search box at the top to find what you need. When using the search box, simple search terms will get the best results. One word is often better than three. Searching for "Pflueger" will give you more results than "Pflueger baitcasting reel." Use these three features to your advantage.

Labels are relevant tags or keywords. Click on a label to view other related posts organized by date. For example, clicking on the label spinnerbaits will take you to all the other posts with the tag spinnerbaits and the label largemouth bass denotes any fishing report where I caught a bass. Labels are listed below, first by frequency and then in alphabetical order. Labels are also tagged below each individual post. When viewing by Label, 20 results are listed per page. Click "Older Posts" to see more posts with that Label. In addition, some entries may also have a list of related posts at the bottom you might also find useful.

Anyone can comment, so go ahead and post. I'd like to hear what you think. There is a "Post a Comment" link below every single entry. Comments are still moderated for approval. Anything inappropriate will be rejected. This also helps cut down on spam.

Thanks for stopping by!

• ICAST favorites so far (Play By Play Format)

I'm trying my best to follow along online with what's new at ICAST. I'm getting my info from people I follow on Twitter so far. It's still early, but the photos are coming in. I'm only going to talk about the items I like. Not going to waste my time posting links for everything at ICAST. If you want to see more, just latch a ride on one of the links or Twitter folks I'm following, k? Most of my updates are coming from @FLW_Magazine.

Shimano Core
I've seen a photo of the new Shimano Core. I like it! Weighs 5.5oz. Has a similar frame as the current Curado E's. Shimano must have figured out how to shave some weight off of all of their reels. (Thanks to FLW_Magazine)

Abu Garcia
Revamped Abu Revo SX & STX. I'm not a big Revo fan, but I do keep an eye on the SX and STX models just in case. Sounds like the braking system is new. (Thanks to FLW_Magazine)

FLW Mag also wrote a late blog on the 15th covering lots of Day 1 items. Included in the mix is the Revo Orra, a $99 low profile baitcaster, but I don't know anything else about that particular reel. You'll find more about it on the second page of that TackleTour Abu Garcia article (see link below). FLW Mag Blog

TackleTour has an article covering the Toro Winch, Premier, STX, SX, and S reels. They explained the braking mechanism with a little more detail. Now it makes more sense to me.

Lazer Trokar Hook
Wired2Fish has posted a quick photo of Shaw Grigsby standing in front of the Lazer Trokar display. The Trokar is a very sharp 3-edge surgical grade hook. Looks like it has a screw lock attached to the eye.

Best of Show

Best of Show Overall: Hobie Marine Hobie Mirage Pro Kayak.

Best of Show list via TackleTog

TackleTour got their hands on the lefty Patriarch and the Patriarch XT. Seems to be a good overall preview. The blue sideplates are not the light blue Johnny Morris style I saw in the TackleTog photo earlier in the week, but rather a much richer and darker blue color. Even though the XT is a good upgrade, I was under the initial impression that perhaps Pflueger was targeting the Shimano Core. If the Shimano Core is 5.5oz now, I think Pflueger has a tough road ahead because the weight of the XT was close to the previous Core model. The pricing might help. Either way you look at it, you've got another option in the realm of light weight reels.
What else I'm watching for:
Big Bite Baits offerings
Dean Rojas products (BBB or frogs)
Those SpinTech 360 degree rotating hooks
Lowrance StructureScan (because I don't know anything about it)

Expect more photos and product info to come out this evening after everyone has a chance to relax. I'm sure being on the floor was a whirlwind experience for everyone. I'd hit up FLW_Magazine on Twitter, Tackletog.com, TackleTour.com, and Wired2fish.com.
