I‘m a liberal leaning outdoorsman attempting to open the minds of right wingers to the idea that libs fish too. Anglers come from all walks of life, left, right, and center. Not everyone who fishes for bass is a redneck fond of Nascar, country music, and religiosity. Expect posts about largemouth bass fishing, techniques, reviews of lures and other products, but not any condemnable conservative rants. I hope to inspire the online angler community to dial down rhetoric which will do more harm than good to our sport.

Getting Around:

If you are looking for something in particular, use the Labels below, the Blog Archive, or the search box at the top to find what you need. When using the search box, simple search terms will get the best results. One word is often better than three. Searching for "Pflueger" will give you more results than "Pflueger baitcasting reel." Use these three features to your advantage.

Labels are relevant tags or keywords. Click on a label to view other related posts organized by date. For example, clicking on the label spinnerbaits will take you to all the other posts with the tag spinnerbaits and the label largemouth bass denotes any fishing report where I caught a bass. Labels are listed below, first by frequency and then in alphabetical order. Labels are also tagged below each individual post. When viewing by Label, 20 results are listed per page. Click "Older Posts" to see more posts with that Label. In addition, some entries may also have a list of related posts at the bottom you might also find useful.

Anyone can comment, so go ahead and post. I'd like to hear what you think. There is a "Post a Comment" link below every single entry. Comments are still moderated for approval. Anything inappropriate will be rejected. This also helps cut down on spam.

Thanks for stopping by!

• Caddo Report 11-27-2009: 3 Little Ones

With the holiday, I had a fishing partner in town, so I opted to take him out on Caddo this afternoon. We didn't hit the water until around noon. Headed west to boat row E, south of row C and idled up to a spot near a fallen cypress tree. From that spot, we drifted west between duck blinds and cypress trees. Water temps ranged from 57 to 59 degrees. Most of the water we fished was pretty clear. I could see down a few feet and even found some clumps of scattered hydrilla. Weather was partly cloudy in the mid-60s with a slight breeze out of the SSW.

I only managed three small bass. Partner didn't catch anything. I didn't establish anything close to a pattern until about two hours into the trip. That pattern was to cast into shady protected spots or fish duck blinds. All of them bit on a smoke shad laminate colored Tiki Stick.

First fish came off a small duck blind along the edge of hyacinths and salvinia. 2:35pm

Second fish came off a larger duck blind closer to open water. 3:11pm

Third fish came off a tree near another duck blind back along the line of salvinia. 3:32pm

Headed in around 4:15pm. Didn't see much topwater activity. Nothing schooling. No shad. Just lots of coots swimming around. Tried out my new Strike King Bottom Dweller. Works well. Casts great. I couldn't feel the blades turn. Also tried a DT-6 and a Red Eye Shad. Only caught hydrilla and dead pad stems with those lures. Partner was throwing a 5" H2O Xpress swimbait the whole time. I was hoping to see something hammer that lure too.

Hi, I fished Cross Lake Friday from 11 am through about 5pm. I also caught 3 bass around the same time frame that you caught yours on Caddo. I had not gotten a bite until around 2:45 when I caught the first small one. Caught the next two within an hour and the bites stopped. One of the bass was 16 inches long. The other two were small 12-13 inch fish. I caught two of the fish with zoom trick worms in watermelon red and one in june bug.
