I‘m a liberal leaning outdoorsman attempting to open the minds of right wingers to the idea that libs fish too. Anglers come from all walks of life, left, right, and center. Not everyone who fishes for bass is a redneck fond of Nascar, country music, and religiosity. Expect posts about largemouth bass fishing, techniques, reviews of lures and other products, but not any condemnable conservative rants. I hope to inspire the online angler community to dial down rhetoric which will do more harm than good to our sport.

Getting Around:

If you are looking for something in particular, use the Labels below, the Blog Archive, or the search box at the top to find what you need. When using the search box, simple search terms will get the best results. One word is often better than three. Searching for "Pflueger" will give you more results than "Pflueger baitcasting reel." Use these three features to your advantage.

Labels are relevant tags or keywords. Click on a label to view other related posts organized by date. For example, clicking on the label spinnerbaits will take you to all the other posts with the tag spinnerbaits and the label largemouth bass denotes any fishing report where I caught a bass. Labels are listed below, first by frequency and then in alphabetical order. Labels are also tagged below each individual post. When viewing by Label, 20 results are listed per page. Click "Older Posts" to see more posts with that Label. In addition, some entries may also have a list of related posts at the bottom you might also find useful.

Anyone can comment, so go ahead and post. I'd like to hear what you think. There is a "Post a Comment" link below every single entry. Comments are still moderated for approval. Anything inappropriate will be rejected. This also helps cut down on spam.

Thanks for stopping by!

• Needed coffee, left with hot mustard & silver

Like any trip to the store where I only need to buy one thing, I came out with multiple items. All I needed was some coffee and I happened to stroll by the fishing area where I noticed items on clearance. After I did a lot of side to side glances to see what deals lurked on that wall, I honed in on the array of Rapala lures hanging from the rack pegs.

Some DT-10's were up there for $5, but that depth range is not my style, so although the price was right, the depth was not. I checked instead for a DT-6. There were two colors, so I grabbed two in Hot Mustard.

Then I scanned the wall again and saw a jerkbait, the Rapala Husky Jerk. My last outing on Cross involved throwing a light weight floating jerkbait that didn't suit the colder water I was faced with, in my opinion. I knew ahead of time I should have tried a suspending jerkbait, but I do not own any. I came out of the store with a Silver HJ-10 that covers the 4'-8' depths.

I passed up some War Eagle spinnerbaits and some Arkie football head jigs, but I knew I couldn't pass up a DT for $5 flat when they normally sell for more than $6 in-store. Not an incredible deal, but a deal compared to the normal going rate.

And I didn't forget the coffee (Verona & House Blend Starbucks).

Too bad the rest of the week will be cold. I'll put these lures to good use soon enough.

This sounds like my story! :-) Lures always catch me first. Silver jerk bait looks great. I wish I could buy one at the price, too.

I second Sung's comment Silver Husky Jerk looks awesome. I've had lots of luck with a 6" black/white. Interested in hearing how the mustard colored ones work out for ya. It looks like a nice color pattern.

The hot mustard is not tremendously different than parrot. It's a brown back versus a blue back pattern. The rest is about the same. Hoping the jerkbait produces for me next time around. I'm going to alternate between that and a minnow colored SSR, I think. That's my plan, anyway. I've also got my swim jigs and rattle baits on deck.

I just need the weather to play nice now. My copolymer and fluorocarbon do not particularly care for cold weather. Easy to get a birds nest, especially with lighter baits.
